As veterinarians, we're responsible for ensuring that the next generation of equestrians has quality horses that can help them reach their goals, and that all begins with breeding. We can make the best decisions when it comes to managing your herd's genetics and behavior. Choosing to breed with your veterinarian allows us to assess your mare and stallion's health completely and safety. Tracking your mare's cycle allows us to breed as close to ovulation as possible, making our breeding attempts efficient and often more cost-effective in the long-run.
Additionally, we can identify and treat any complications that could affect the pregnancy, ensuring that your mare is able to carry her foal to term and deliver with the least amount of risk. Equine reproduction is often complicated, frustrating, and exhausting, but it's also one of the most rewarding parts of my job. The joy on my clients' faces when they first see their mare's embryo on ultrasound or the sound of the fetal heartbeat or meeting their newborn foal for the first time: that makes everything worth it!
As many of our clients know, we love sharing our knowledge and important equine health news. Our blog contains valuable educational resources in one easy location.
